Short Biography
Julio Sosa (born Julio María Sosa Venturini, 2nd February 1926 in Uruguay) was mostly known as "El Varón del Tango". He went through numerous professions before he became a vocalist for Carlos Gilardoni's orchestra in La Paz, Uruguay (1947). It was not until 1949 that he went to Buenos Aires to become famous in Río de la Plata and came to be considered as one of the most important tango singers in the latter half of the 20th century.
Julio Sosa "El Varón del Tango"
In his short life (died 26th November 1964 aged 38) he managed to record for such labels as RCA Victor, Pampa and CBS Columbia and sing for three orchestras: Francini-Pontier (1949-1953), Francisco Rotundo (1953-1955) and finally Armando Pontier (1955-1960). His greatest passion were sports cars.
He was involved in many accidents primarily due to high speed driving. This became his demise in 1964 when he crashed against a lamp post on Figueroa Alcorta Avenue in Buenos Aires.
