Jerrald "Jerry" Goldsmith (1929-2004) was one of the most important composers that worked for the movie system in Hollywood. Pupil of Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco, Jacob Gimpel and Miklos Rozsa, Goldsmith began working on radio and television in the 1950s and wrote his first complete score in 1957 for the oscure movie Black Patch. His last scores were the rejected one for Timeline (2003) and for Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003). He won an Oscar for The Omen (1976). Among others, he wrote the music for Planet of the Apes (1968), Patton (1970), Papillon (1973), Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Alien (1979), First Blood (1982), Gremlins (1984), Legend (1985), Lionheart (1987), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), First Knight (1995) and Hollow Man (2000).
In this Deluxe Edition of Damien-The Omen II (1978), publishing in 2001 by the great soundtrack label Varèse Sarabande for the 25th anniversary of the original The Omen movie (1976), there are the original album previously released (tracks 1-10) and the actual Film Soundtrack (tracks 11-26).
Goldsmith reused the choral material from the original movie (in a very free latin language…) and wrote a lot of action-thriller sequences, with great use of brass.
Sequel of the "satanic thriller" The Omen (directed by Richard Donner in 1976), Damien was produced by 20th Century-Fox, directed by Don Taylor and starred by William Holden, Lee Grant, Lew Ayres, Sylvia Sidney, Jonathan Scott-Taylor, Robert Foxworth.
"Sequel to huge hit of 1976, is less effective, still has shock value from grisly murders, plus good work by Holden. Best scene is Lew Ayres' death under an icy lake. Jonathan Scott-Taylor is the demon child, William Holden and Lee Grant his stupidly unsuspecting kin. Don Taylor took over directing from Michael Hodges, who worked on screenplay. Followed by The Final Conflict (1981) " (Leonard Maltin).
