J.J. Cale is a treasure. While superficial entertainment celebrities come and go, enjoying their five minutes of fame, copying the latest quickly forgotten thing, J.J. Cale keeps rocking on. His sound is like no one else. A little country, a little blues, a little rock and roll, Cale's sound is all his own. In a culture, which constantly proclaims the virtues of non-conformity, by dozens of utterly predictable, conformist entertainers, Cale is the real deal. In a culture which constantly proclaims the joys of excess, Cale's sound is always precise, under-stated and the definition of cool. This 3rd album of his is one of his best. A series of quiet, under-stated pieces, the album, of course, got absolutely zero air time. Who cares. Here we are, decades after it was recorded, and every tune is still fresh and new.
