As for the "Kinderszenen", in 1987 Horowitz continued to amaze with his ability to imbue this work with renewed freshness and spontaneity. His affection for the music is clear and in many ways this is the highlight of the programme . . . this CD represents a significant musical occasion – one at which Horowitz again demonstrated his unique mastery in cannily-chosen repertoire, delivered with his typical élan, his resources still impressive. As a permanent document of the farewell event from a long, sometimes tormented career, this disc will hold a valued place in the catalogue.
Record Review / Donald Manildi, International Record Review (London) / 01. July 2008

The pianist's admirers will surely be attracted to this new disc for its sentimental value . . . it is also instructive to hear these performances against the 'official' versions and thereby to be reminded of both the extent and the limits of Horowitz's spontaneity . . . his inimitable sorcery is still evident . . . In short, this recital is manifestly typical of Horowitz's playing in his old age . . .
Record Review / David Breckbill, BBC Music Magazine (London) / 01. July 2008

. . . the Mozart Rondo sparkles and sings in a way that the New York version does not; the haunting first movement of K. 333 is played, unlike in New York, without the repeat of the development section . . . "Kinderszenen" remains as fresh and beguiling as ever and, for once, Horowitz does not overcomplicate his beloved "Träumerei". The "Moment musical", too, is preferable to the "home recording" – simpler, more direct – benefiting, as does the whole concert, from the superior acoustics of Hamburg's Musikhalle . . . one still comes away dazzled by the unique sonority, imagination and élan of this extraordinary musician.
Record Review / Jeremy Nicholas, Gramophone (London) / 01. July 2008

. . . Horowitz demonstrates that the incredible gifts that won him adoration over a lifetime of performing had not lessened . . . one can only marvel at the charismatic sparks that still flew from his fingers in his eighth decade . . . bearing in mind that this is a live recording, there is an extra measure of interest. The maintenance of Horowitz's keyboard technique is in itself quite astonishing; his fingers fly over the keys in Moszkowski's "Etincelles" as lightly and accurately as they did when the first recorded it in 1951 . . . The recording has the magic immediacy and excitement typical of a live performance . . . The handsome booklet, filled with photos and some Horowitz quotations, adds to the splendid production of this CD . . . it is all the more refreshing to have this extraordinary last testament of the man whose name personifies the glorious heights of 20th-century pianism.
Record Review / Susan Kagan, Fanfare (Tenafly, NJ) / 01. November 2008

The Schubert-Liszt "Valse-Caprice", Chopin Mazurka op. 33:4 and Polonaise op. 53, come up totally fresh . . . I am struck by his delicate approach in the first several minutes of the Polonaise . . . Schubert's 'Moment Musical in F minor" and Moritz Moszkowski's "Etincelles" complete the portrait of this great artist, still able to mesmerize us at age 83 with his musicianship and technical skills.
Record Review / Becker, American Record Guide / 01. November 2008
