    Classical / 20th Century / Organ

I recently became aware of Gunther Rost's Petr Eben recording in an article in an organ journal. The recording is really exceptional and, in my opinion, sets new standards in the field of organ recordings: The choice of the instrument is excellent, the new Goll organ in Memmigen seems almost predestined for Ebens music. Above all, I would like to emphasize the perfection and virtuosity as well as the gripping musical interpretations of the young organist (I read that Gunther Rost was recently appointed professor of organ at the age of 27).He succeeds in completely captivating the listener in the fascinating tonal language of Eben and the tonal possibilities of the organ. The fact that he made the recording himself in collaboration with the composer Petr Eben speaks for the authenticity of his interpretations.
Then I would like to point out the extensive booklet. The texts and quotations from Goethe's "Faust" help a lot to understand the content and intentions of the music, even as a layperson.
Another plus point of this recording is the recording quality itself. Many details of church acoustics are often sacrificed in organ recordings, which fortunately is not the case here.
The CD also has a special recording feature: thanks to modern technology, the "Mutationes", a piece for two organs, can be played by only one organist, ie. H. Gunther Rost can "accompany himself" in this recording - the result is remarkable.
I can really recommend this CD to anyone interested in this music!
