Gauntlet Legends (PSX) - Original Sound Version (LOSSY FLAC - see description)
    Game-rip lossy XA > FLAC storage (q5) | 17 tracks | 1 CD | ~334 MB split-archive (4)

    • NOTE: This is NOT lossless. This is lossy audio stored in a lossless container to avoid transcoding / further quality loss. This is intrinsic to how game audio is sometimes ripped, given some games only provide us with lossy audio sources. This is explained further down.

    Description:

The original audio found in Gauntlet Legends for the PSX. I wanted to make a sort of soundtrack for the game, since no official soundtrack was ever produced. Note that this does not cover all audio found in the game. There were about 40 themes total, which I rounded down to a selection of the more common and memorable audio found in the game. The others hardly seemed worth a ~900 MB upload just to include.

What's missing? Some of the themes from the Mountain, Town and Castle realms. None of the themes from the Ice realms appear here. (aside from the Yeti's theme) The themes for the four bonus levels are also missing. I wanted to include the main title theme, but this was streamed in the FMV itself. (it also would have been more lossy than the main soundtrack) The music for the options menu and Sumner's Tower are still intact, though.

Some tracks did not fade-out on their own, having an abrupt cut-off point where they would normally loop. I used Audacity to create a 5-second fade-out, and inserted 2 seconds of silence afterwards.

The tracks are arranged in the order they would normally appear in-game. All files have IDv3 tags and album art. (JPG 500x500 px) I created the album art from the cover of the PAL version of the game, using a high-resolution scan.

Why? Gauntlet was one of the biggest "party" games back in the day. I used to spend hours staying up all night with my friends grinding our characters to higher levels. I figured there may be others out there who dedicated a lot of time toward the series, and would like to have a bit of nostalgia. Enjoy!

    • Due to the way video games store their audio assets, it is not possible to use EAC to extract music, or provide a log. The audio was extracted from XA containers, and then stored with FLAC to avoid any further quality loss. I apologize for the inconvenience.
