Some strange things about the Pièces de violes: the score was published in 1728, death year of Marin Marais, as if Couperin was waiting it to dare printing Viol music, and the score has no author's name, simply the initials F.C. Viol players use to say that the two suites are not written for the bass viol, but against it because they are very demanding technically.
The CD contain the two suites and two concerts à deux violes. The recording by Aline Blondeau is quite impressive
