The mother-and-daughter duo of Praxedis Hug-Rütti (harp) and Praxedis Geneviève Hug (piano) conveys a particular sense of joy and musical eloquence. Full of enthusiasm and dedicated to bringing this valuable and highly appreciated combination of instruments from the salons of the pre-classical era to the international concert stage, Duo Praxedis has been delighting the public since 1996 with their technically challenging repertoire and with the alluring and beautiful sound of the harp and the piano.

The Swiss chamber music duo’s critical success grew out of their willingness to perform work from the classical and contemporary repertoire and faithful arrangements of well-known works. The duo’s next big project will be a complete recording of tangos by Astor Piazzolla produced by Christopher Alder.

Praxedis Hug’s talent as a pianist (she appeared most recently on a recording of solo works by Franz Liszt for Sony Music), combined with Praxedis Hug-Rütti’s prowess on the harp (including concert appearances with renowned orchestras at the Lucerne and Gstaad music festivals), serve to create the duo’s unique range of sound and musical expression.

The duo’s extensive discography reveals the breadth and diversity of their repertoire ranging from the classical to modern works, with performances that are always in-formed by a desire for a well-balanced musical aesthetic of the harp and the piano. In 2014, the Duo Praxedis was awarded a grant from the UBS Culture Foundation in recognition of their commitment to the advancement of contemporary music.

That same year, Duo Praxedis premiered a double concerto by Oliver Waespi at the Tonhalle Zurich. In March 2016, the duo performed Mozart’s Concerto for Piano and Harp K. 365 with a cadenza by Carl Rütti together with the Berlin Camerata at Berlin’s Philharmonie concert hall. The live performance, with an encore by John Thomas (Souvenir de Bal), will be released on CD.

The duo’s own arrangements are have received critical acclaim in the international press, most recently by Luxembourg’s Pizzicato Magazine in December 2015: “…even though the dialogues are rhetorical in conception, those of the ›Scheherazade‹ are most eloquent and charming, as they combine the two instruments in the best, casual and most natural way and produce the most beautiful atmosphere.”

Duo Praxedis performs regularly at international music festivals such as the Esterházy Festival Eisenstadt and at the Engadin Festival and has recorded for Guild, Paladino, Preiser and ARS Produktion.
