Drums are for parades hail from Belgium, and they are the newest noisy and hammering explosion. Think The Melvins, think Big Business, think Queens of the Stone Age in an experimental vibe and you know what you got in your front garden. In 2008 the band already released a 10" and this is their first full-length release.Tracklist:
Released on CD last summer, the vinyl version is out now, crazy new artwork with again a rabbit on the front cover. In the drawing the rabbit has an axe with blood in his hands and is standing in a landscape of hilarious pieces of human and animal remains. When folding out the included poster this turns out to be just a fragment of a bigger drawing. I am not going to reveal what else can be found on the poster, therefore you have to buy it yourself but it’s simply the equivalent of this weird album.
The record starts off in a typical The Melvins way with “The Law” and “I’m Not Who You Think We Are”. Within the rocking grooves and energy a lot of crazy stuff is happening. A violin and other classic string instruments enter the scene without warning in “Another Kind of Bad” and "Boy Was in the Deathroom". It gives the heavy band a theatric edge without becoming kitsch.
In the first song on the B-side "Opium Den Idiot Check" the saxophone sound of Jorgen Munkeby (Shining) is terrorizing your ears as the Italian band Zu does. The coolest thing about "Drums are for parades" is that it never becomes too pretentious, all the sounds and rhythms seem just to be natural. In the closing song “A Salesman’s Pen” the trio showcases one of the band members actually can sing (I don’t know who!). Once again string arrangements are woven together with an addicting guitar riff to create a monstrous sound. The next big thing from Belgium? Definitely!-asice.net
