This album, released in 1993, is a gorgeous collection of the worlds greatest standards. "Speak Low" isn't a standard, really, it's a Broadway tune also recorded and released in '93 by Barbra Streisand. Same song, really different versions. Tom Scott did one hell of a production job on this release. Diane is bathed in strings, each ballad carefully arranged, Jeremy Lubbock appears here to meld electronics with strings, as he does, and it works well without sounding too dated. The opening track. "When I Fall In Love" gives the listener an idea of what's in store, the glorious swelling of strings suggest a big, open sound and Diane's perfect pitch, perfect music. Her readings of all the songs here, as with all her recordings, are so emotinal and involved with the lyric, she and the song are one.Track List
