Initially Andreas Bay Estrup dreamt of a musical career as a jazz drummer. He studied in Copenhagen, Amsterdam and the US and never really wished to do anything else but drumming. But things didn’t go as planned. Estrup started writing songs and began to think of a band he could play these songs with. He formed a band of old and new friends, all of them experienced musicians from acts like Saybia, Slaraffenland, Folkeklubben and Efterklang. They rehearsed in the basement of Rasmus Jusjong’s parents. Rasmus was the drummer of this new band called Dangers of the Sea, as Andreas Bay Estrup had become its lead singer.
In 2011 the combo played its first live gigs, in 2012 they played at Roskilde Festival and in 2013 their debut album ”Dangers of the Sea“ was released. The vocal harmonies and acoustic guitars are influenced by '60s and '70s folk-rock – and especially because of Estrup’s touching vocals, the Danish band was compared to names like Midlake and CSN. The band members however name Neil Young as an important influence among many others.

For the last couple of years Estrup and his companions have been working on a new album and the first single ”You & I” is released on June 16th. The full album ”Our Place in History” will be released October 20th on V2 Records and DevilDuck Records. This album feels like a new start for the band on many levels. Estrup still writes the songs and lyrics, but each band member contributes equally to the arrangements and sound. While staying true to their folk-rock roots, Dangers of the Sea have found their own way - and they have grown as songwriters, musicians and most importantly as a band.
