Just been awarded an Opus Klassik as the "Young Artist of the Year" for his first album with Sony Classical, "Incantations", percussionist Christoph Sietzen has been praised by the media as an outstanding talent – a refreshingly natural musician notable for his technical mastery and powerful stage presence: “He took up position at a marimba and coaxed from it sounds of rapturous fragility.” (New York Times) “…this most questing of younger percussionists.“ (Grammophone) Sietzen was a prizewinner at the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in 2014, received several awards for his recordings and was named as "Rising Star" by the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) for the 2017 / 18 season. He was also featured as „Great Talent“ by Vienna’s Konzerthaus for the season 2018 / 19. A citizen of Luxembourg, Christoph Sietzen was born in Salzburg and started learning percussion at the age of six, taking lessons from Martin Grubinger, Sr., and later attended the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, where his teachers were Bogdan Bacanu, Leonhard Schmidinger and Josef Gumpinger. He also studied double bass and harpsichord, taking a special interest in baroque repertoire. Since 2014 he has held a teaching position at Vienna’s University for Music and the Performing Arts. Sietzen has appeared at many major concert halls and performed with orchestras including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, WDR Funkhaus Orchestra Cologne, Romanian National Symphony Orchestra and Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Christoph is the founding member of the Marimba-Ensemble “The Wave Quartet” with Bogdan Bacanu.

For his new album, Christoph Sietzen has recorded fascinating works by Bach, Albéniz, Piazzolla, Glass, Francisco Tárrega and Arvo Pärt. In his very personal selection, the percussionist selected pieces in which he and the listener find silence: "Opening" of Glassworks by Philip Glass, the famous "Asturias" by Isaac Albéniz, Bach's "Sarabande" and the "Gigue" (from the Lute Suite in E minor) - under the guidance of Christoph Sietzen, these pieces get a magical sound on the marimba, which is also reflected in the very direct recording. Whether »Recuerdos de la Alhambra« by Tárrega, Pärt's »Mirror in the Mirror« or Piazzolla's »Romántico« and »Verano Porteño«, Christoph Sietzen manages a meditative sound journey that captivates the listener from the beginning - until the end of the album the famous second, slow movement of Bach's harpsichord concerto in F minor accompanies the Academy of Ancient Music.
