    La Wally was premiered at a time when Italian verismo was emerging, but this opera
    was not a part of that school. Rather, it reflected its composer's interest in the
    works of Wagner and other figures of the late Romantic period. Although it is seldom
    performed outside of Europe (especially in Italy), the work is known to many opera
    enthusiasts through its Act One aria for the heroine, "Ebben?…No andrò ;ontano,"
    a haunting reverie on the theme of traveling alone and far from home. The aria, aside
    from its popularity as a concert piece among prominent spinto and dramatic sopranos,
    was introduced to viewers of the cult film Diva…

    … premiere on January 20, 1892. It was a huge success, particularly after it was
    adopted by Arturo Toscanini, who conducted it widely and even named his daughter Wally.
    Catalani is remembered today almost entirely for La Wally… (by Joseph Stevenson)

    Final note:
    You may have noticed the published cover is titled
    “La Wally-DECCA-CDA Release 1998”
    But the release I offer is from 1989 with original cover. Why this?
    Very simple: The same recording was re-released in 1998
    and my 1989’s cover is… let’s say it politely, …less attractive.
    Take care, it might hurt your eyes – but therefore the music is salve to your ears.
    So forgive me this little fake.
