Daniel Salvador (February 19th, 1997), known by his stage name Call Me Chava, is a Mexican singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and musician. His lyrics talk about social problematics, existentialism, books he’s read and personal experiences. His alternative genre music is a combination of echoing guitars, slightly rough vocals and outer-space synths, that draws influences from Radiohead, U2, Arcade Fire, Bruce Springsteen, Foals, and even Hans Zimmer.
He was 10 years old by the time his former childhood band, “The Black Spot”, (where he played the roles for both guitar and songwriting) had its first live show. After splitting up, he started pursuing a solo career at age of 15 releasing his first EP Fall Down (under the pseudonym of “Daniel Cleum”), which was only sold locally and played live very few times.
He was invited to join a local band called “Blue Object”, again with the roles of playing guitar, songwriting and producing. After having some live shows at bigger venues like Iberoamericana University and local bars, they released an album called Lightness which contained music he thought of as “superficial”, this was reason for his departure from the band. After playing live as a solo artist at smaller venues and writing a few songs which had Pop Rock influences like The Killers and Coldplay that didn’t convince him, he decided to stop making music for a while to focus on exploring and studying music he considered deeper and experimental.
By age of 18, he started writing again with a more mature style influenced by progressive rock, alternative, indie rock and classic rock, with powerful lyrics that talk about social problematics. After a year of experimenting with different sounds, he recorded his first EP, Mentality, under pseudonym Call Me Chava, which is a reference to his nickname “Chava” (he always introduces himself as “My name is Daniel, but you can call me Chava” in fact). Mentality was released in 2017 (March 27th for SoundCloud, and April 2nd for online stores) as well as the single "Only a Dream" (May 8th, 2017).
