    Their sound being forged deep in the frigid ruthlessness of the icy scandinavian landscapes, Wolfheart is set to dive into a new chapter of its existence with the upcoming album ‘Constellation of the Black Light’. The Finnish four-piece prove their sheer skill to write compositions of utmost brutality throughout the album, and hold their stand on how Winter Metal ought to sound.

    Wolfheart set forth to make its name in 2012, arising from the ashes of other projects left behind. Being the creative brainchild of guitarist/vocalist Tuomas Saukkonen, the band’s early years consisted of Tuomas writing all the instrumental layers for the songs released by the project. After the release of ‘Winterborn’ in 2013, the debut album proved the musical aspirations of the band; and they ended up releasing their second album ‘Shadow World’ (2015) through Spinefarm Records. Since then, the steady growth of the band’s recognition and appraisal has proven to capabilities of the band as a whole to deliver a sound globally appreciated, yet very melodically complex in its unique structures of musicality.

    The 7 track album, though dissatisfying in its length, is impressively packed throughout with a lot of elements stuffed in from a variety of sophisticated genres. It starts with putting the listener in a meditative trance resonant with the acoustic guitar clanging away in “Everlasting Fall” which does eventually proceed into the classic hallmarks of the Wolfheart sound, melancholic harmonies, thunderous drumming and the Tuomas’s roars echoing through the record with the rest of the pack behind him; that being Mika Lammassari (lead guitar), Joonas Kauppinen (drums) and Lauri Silvonen (bass guitar).

    Those aware and familiar with the band will find themselves at home jamming to “Breakwater”. The song personally stands as one of the best masterpieces written by the four piece. The intro riff instills emotions of an unexpected dread, only to have them intensified by the rest of the instruments locking in for the rest of the song. The orchestras of hell welcome the listener in the opening of “The Defender”, which swings back into the melodic aspect of the band’s sound.

    Aside from that, the entirety of the album delivers exactly on that notion. Wolfheart are the masters of manifesting atmospheres fueled on sorrow, darkness and pure overwhelming intensity; and that paired with the sheer brutality of melodic death metal, provides a punch packed with a lot of firepower waiting burn. Or in this context, a lot of ice-power waiting to freeze over anything in its path.

    ‘Constellation of the Black Light’ is seriously packed with impressive songwriting, uniquely bought into the world through the efforts of Wolfheart. Regardless of the young career the band has, they are making a path for themselves to be known in the world of modern metal, and they are walking defiantly down the road…
