For their debut CDs many of today's in classical music, especially those who are excessively promoted disproportionate to their skills, choose - with magnificent regularity - overstrained works which are, moreover, already very well represented in the catalogues. It is so much more gratifying that Florian Uhlig does NOT fall into this category. For me personally, his 'Venezia' was one of the most interesting releases of solo piano works of the last decade. Don't forget to compare tracks 1 and 18 to see what two different composers of the same century have done with one theme. If you cannot remember this melody: it's a folk tune which is popularly associated with the words "My hat, it has three corners". Missing date in the booklet: Ignace Gibsone (1826-97).
