Welcome to Latin House Sessions for a panoramic perspective on Latin-influenced music with a party twist. Over two hours of hand-selected tracks from boogaloos to bossas, Latin house to Brazilian drum & bass, make up this double album of quality tracks. The producers and artists have been drawn from such diverse locations as Rio, Bari, Berlin, Havana and Bristol, all brought together in one fantastic carnival Mela guaranteeing the sunshine vibe all year long!

What makes this album so wonderful is the incredibly high quality of all the music included from such diverse locations. It serves as testimony to the quality of Latin music being produced all around the world, whilst underscoring why the genre has become so popular over the last few years. Be it beach parties in Miami or the carnival in Brazil these are the tracks that have been putting a smile on so many people’s faces.

Many of the tracks have been sourced from exclusive deejay releases on vinyl which otherwise would not have seen the light of day, whilst other tracks have been discovered tucked away on small independent labels in Brazil and Italy where previously they were the preserve of vinyl junkies.

From the jazzy Latin drum & bass end of the spectrum we have some of the finest tracks to have been made since the boys from Brazil started ripping it up on the dancefloors. Drumagick, two young brothers from the South Side of Sao Paulo, started building up an international name for themselves when they cut up the Jorge Ben classic ‘Take It Easy My Brother Charles’ to make a swinging drum & bass version that even Ben himself has come to admire. This track typifies the style, panache and swing that the Brazilians have brought to the scene in the last few years. The track is included here alongside the likes of DJ Marky, another Sao Paulo resident, who brings his production skills to bear on Max De Castro.

However the Brazilians are not having it all their own way, as UK John B demonstrates with his mutated bass heavy Salsa workout or just check out the typically jazz European style of Truby Trio and percussion driven frenzy of Fauna Flash. A selection of tracks that take you right across the full gambit of Latin drum & bass.

Add to that a fine selection of house and club-inspired tunes and you have the perfect Latino combination. Check out the likes of Banda Black Rio, one of the funKIEST bands ever to have come out of Brazil rediscovered in the Acid Jazz days, who are given a funky house re-rub by London’s Fazeaction. Talking of Acid Jazz the album also features Chris Bangs, one of the godfathers of that scene, who teams up with a Brazilian vocalists for a serious carnival mix.

So from funky Latino house to swinging bossas and much more this is the perfect musical cocktail suitable for the beach, lounge or bedroom. Enjoy!

CD1:

1. TRÜBY TRIO: A GO GO
No Latin party would be complete without this classic and much sought-after uptempo swinging sample-led Latin-Jungle-Monster from Germany’s finest. Truby Trio a.k.a. Rainer Truby and Fauna Flash (also featured on this compilation) have put together a tune that rocks from start to finish. When the horns kick in just try to resist!

2. BOSSACUCANOVA / CARLOS LYRA: MARIA MOITA
Mix up SOME GROOVY HORNS, SWINGING BEAT, ACCOUSTIC GUITAR, SOME PARTY SOUND-EFFECTS, A GREAT SONG AND YOU HAVE 'MARIA MOITA' THE EPTIOME OF LATIN MUSIC:A REAL HIP SWAYING AFFAIR!

3. SIRIUS B: HIGH AND DRY (Butti 49 Remix)
Sirius B have become a popular group on the Jazz dance scene in the UK and this exclusive remix by Norwegian producer-duo Butti 49 updates the retro feel of the original mix. Original release on the Future World Funk impress this is a gem of a track!

4. SUBA: FELICIDADE (Buscemi Remix)
This is the story of A Serbian who ends up in Sao Paulo records an album that has important repercussions locally AND eventually finds an international release via Belgium. Confused, then just check out the music! Felicidade (happiness) features up-and-coming vocalist-cum-muse Cibelle, sweet tones from south of the Rio Grande.

5. BENY MORE: BABARABATIRI (Brothers By Choice One Mix)
The legendary Cuban Singer, composer, arranger, bandleader; nicknamed 'El Barbaro del Ritmo' ('The Barbarian of Rhythm') who first sang with a band aged 15 in 1935 IS brought bang up to date with a straight-ahead funky house remix courtesy of Brothers By Choice.

6. BANDA BLACK RIO: MAGIA DO PRAZER (Faze Action Album Mix)
One of the funkiest bands to have ever graced Brazil recently reformed to put together a new album with a contemporary feel. By teaming up with producers Fazeaction they have manage to capture the original spirit in this gorgeous funky Brazilian house workout.

7. SUV feat. Tali: DO YOU REMEMBER ME
Based in Bristol and a key member Roni Size’s Reprasent crew Suv is famed for his global perspective on music production incorporating Latin, Arabic and Indian elements in the mix. This swinging Jazz baby with inviting vocals may send you in a spin ­ be warned it has a little surprise up it’s sleeve!

8. JOHN B: AY CARAMBA!
Coming on strong and representing the UK John B delivers a slice of his trademark dancefloor mayhem. The intro. might lead you to think you are about to hear some heavy Salsa workout but suddenly things slip up a gear and the track mutates into a no-holes barred carnival beat stormer. Caramba!

9. LOS CHICHARRONS: CHICHARRON ‘N’’ BOOGALOO
Boogaloo with a twist! This Latino/Danish pairing specialise in break driven Latin dance music; a splash of funk and plenty of party vibes are added to this heady cocktail. Ramon Santana, one half of the duo, was born in the Dominican Republic, the home of Merengue and Johnny Pacheco (legendary Latin Musician), a heritage that proves a powerful inspiration for his contemporary experiments.

10. AFRICANISM Produced by Bob Sinclar: VIEL OU LA (Classic Mix)
Bob Sinclair whips a Caribbean carnival vibe with this extra special soca excursion. Tough beats and a throbbing bass line drive this track to full effect when the horns kick in for the Soca breakdown it is hard not to be moved.

11. NICOLA CONTE & GIANLUCA PETRELLA: NEW STANDARDS
One from the Italian Jet-set crew! Nicola Conte has been instrumental in defining the new ‘cool bossa’ sound that fills the clubs of Bari. In the process Nicola has built up an international reputation and ‘New Standards’ confirms why that is the case.

12. MINUS 8: A CONCHA COR DE ROSA
Robert Jan Meyer a.k.a. Minus 8 shows respect for the Brazil boys a track heavily influenced by Patife & Marky and John B. Minus 8 masters the whole spectrum of Downbeat, Drum & Bass and Nu-Jazz but this track at 174 bpm is a Latin Drum & Bass party workout.

CD2:

1. BUDNUBAC: SEÑORITA
Robin Tallor Firth, co-conspirator with Nightmares on Wax, is at it again with his latest Cuban-influenced project BudNubac. A rolling house beat builds up to an infectious hands in the air chorus. Move to the dancefloor!

2. ORIGINAL SOUL BOY feat. Monica Vasconcelos: TOUCH THE SUN (Latin Carnival Mix)
It’s funky, chunky and a serious sunshine track. Producers Dave Jarvis & DJ Chris Bangs team up with the stunning Monica Vasconcelos for a serious slice of Latino dance action. Monica is a Brazilian vocalist who has made London her home and regular brings that Brazilian sunshine to brighten up our lives.

3. MIYAZAWA: A TANGO FOR GUEVARA & EVITA (TRUBY TRIO TREATMENT)
Now this is a truly an international contribution linking Japan, Argentina and Germany in one fantastic musical loop. Miyazawa is famous in Japan as part of the exceedingly successful rock group Boom but his love of Latin music has led him to South America to record with some of the best musicians around.

4. S-TONE INC: RENDEZ-VOUS ‘A’ MINUIT
CAPTURING THE BRAZLIAN BOSSA NOVA SOUND IN A CONTEMPORARY PRODUCTION SEEMS TO BE AN ITALIAN SPECIALITY AND S-TONE INC. DELIVERING THIS UPBEAT LOUNGE CLASSIC CONTINUE THE WINNING FORMULA.

5. ZUCO 103: UM COCO
This band have made a big name for themselves across Europe even entering the mainstream charts in such countries as Germany. Here we see a stripped down & funked up electronic coco ­ a type of music from the coastal regions of the northeast of Brazil.

6. DJ MARKY,DJ PATIFE & ESOM FEAT. FERNANDO PORTO: SO TINHA QUE SER COM VOCE (Original Mix)
This Tom Jobim classic is brought bang up-to-date with a chilled drum & bass remake fronted by the multi-talented Fernanda Porto who has become the undisputed diva of Brazilian drum & bass. As the track eases you in pour out that 'caipirinha' cocktail and kick off your shoes.

7. DRUMAGICK: EASY BOOM
This track goes a long way to explaining how the ‘magic’ got into Drumagick ­ respectfully cutting up the 1969 Jorge Ben classic with that inimitable Brazilian style and ‘ginga’ (swing) ­ get ready for a slice of Brazilian sunshine. Expect to hear more from these boys in the future as they put the finishing touches to their first album.

8. FLYTRONIX: ZIGZAG
Digging deep the Flytronix boys have sampled up some seriously obscure retro-Bossa samples and cleverly mixed them up in a bass heavy carnival mix. Funky Latin drum & bass.

9. LTJ X-PERIENCE featuring JOE BATAAN: ORDINARY GUY (Latin Club Edit)
One of Italy's most acclaimed DJ's whose music takes in soulful atmospheres and tribal beats teams up with the legendary LATIN CROONER Joe Bataan to make a less than ordinary track.

10. MARKUS NIKOLAI: BUSHES - DERRIK CARTER’S FIRST RE-CREATION (Version 1.2)
With shades of the Girl from Ipanema this is the kind of track that just leaves you feeling warm inside. Delicious vocals and solid beats make this a serious winner ­ on hearing it once you will be humming it all day long.

11. MAX DE CASTRO: SAMBO RARO (DJ Marky 12” Remix)
Crooner and multi-instrumentalist, Max has music in his blood being the son of FAMOUS BRAZILIAN MUSCIAN Wilson Simonal . This remix of the title track of his first album sees him teaming up with DJ Marky currently the most in-demand producer in Brazil.

12. FAUNA FLASH: PERCUSSION
Since their first release in 1995 Fauna Flash have built a strong reputation, getting props from the likes of the Metalheadz and Gilles Peterson. This percussive workout may not be what you would respect from German drum & bass but fantastic it is.
