"THE MUSIC WE'RE DRAWN TO IS USUALLY BASED UPON STORIES. IT'S HOW WE LEARNT TO WRITE SONGS. PEOPLE FROM THE PAST WERE SOME DAMN GOOD STORYTELLERS - THOSE OLD BLUES ABOUT LOVE, LOSS, MURDER AND RELIGION. WE DO THAT BUT WE TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT LEVEL - WE'RE A YOUNGER GENERATION SO THE WAY THAT WE LOOK AT IT IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT."
SΟ SAID CALEB FOLLOWILL, SPEAKING TO MOJO in 2003 for the magazine's first major piece which coincided with the release of the band's spirited debut album, Youth And Young Manhood.
Since then, of course, Kings Of Leon have grown into arguably the biggest rock band on the planet right now, their blend of alternative rock and distinctly Southern charm creating a sound that is both unique and decidedly hard to characterise. This bespoke compilation is a reflection of that sound. As a result, it is quite possibly the only collection where you'll find The Kills rubbing shoulders with Merle Haggard or The Cribs hanging around with Woody Guthrie. Somehow, this mix is in itself a testament to the impact of the Kings Of Leon. Long may they run…
