In the early 90s, Us3 was classified as Acid Jazz. Behind the name Us3 were two DJs who ripped out a few drum spots from records of the Blue Note jazz label, put a breakbeat carpet under this case and asked several rappers from above to rap. Of the two founding fathers, only one remained - Geoff Wilkinson. All this, too, I'm afraid, has nothing to do with today.
Today's Us3 music makes a pretty lively impression, to say that this beat is "programmed" is not even a language, although many of the drum parts, in fact, are the result of quite virtuoso sampling. However, the album rests on the voice and energy of the New York jazz singer Alison Crockett (Alison Crockett).
The fact that strong and low voices have begun to return to pop music makes me terribly happy. Trip-hop was followed by a rat tail of bands exploiting subtle, fragile and campy girlish whining, followed by a pulsing suppressed breakbeat, which, despite all the talk about funk and groove, was completely devoid of this very funk and groove. Of course, this album will not put an end to the dominance of high and weak-willed voices in pop music, but it can serve as a kind of road sign.
