If Billy Gibbons were to pick up Stevie Ray’s guitar, the unison would forge the talent of Timo Gross. His grizzly moan, paired with his tasteful licks, packs quite the punch. With a disciplined approach to the blues and well crafted, feel good riffs, Timo delivers a powerful performance on Landmarks.
The album is driven by Timo’s suave soloing set loose throughout each track, and tied together by catchy, upbeat rhythms. “Homesick” is a great example of one that draws you in with a subtle build to a sing-along style chorus. His delivery adds depth and emotion into each and every line. On “Walk Through The World,” Timo turns us on to his modern alternative side. Gentle, soulful verses culminate to a warming chorus, another feel good vibe. Turning away from originals, we find a hidden gem in the form of Korn’s “Word Up.” Timo’s rasp works wonders to mimic Korn’s edgy growls, in this bluesy rendition. He rolls right into another form of inspiration on ZZ Top’s “I Thank You.” The style fits Timo like a glove, his vocal strengths and roots in blues rock.
Timo Gross progresses with each album, pushing the boundaries of blues and alternative rock. He pays tribute to one expected, and one slight surprise, adding some twists and turns throughout. Landmarks, his 6th Studio release, is a tasteful and exciting blues-infused stroll through each track. From soft ballads to upbeat numbers, Timo delivers a soulful, heart warming compilation.
