In August 1995, two generations of jazz made in our dollars come together at the Cafe Central in Madrid, around a shared intuition. The idea came from a chance encounter on the same stage a year earlier, from which Tete Montoliu and Javier Colina decide to re-experience the feeling of playing together, without any trial whatsoever. Fans familiar with the intention that this apparent nonchalance hides, the way jazz musicians are measured at a meeting of this kind.Track List
Those who attended closely, however, we had occasion to see something else: both musicians seemed to try to draw some of that quick trip. There was intense excitement, a palpable spell on the evening of Café Central. This record [disk Tete Montoliu & Javier Colina 1995], performed in a couple of sessions a few days later, he captured the temperature of the event, and contains some important consequences from the aesthetic point of view.
Tete Montoliu and Javier Colina solved with the same spirit the complex relationship between formal control and expressive freedom, closer personal manners effortlessly, creating a common space that transforms the relationship with the listener in a sea of ??innuendo.
Montoliu, the teacher untimely seeing here a vigorous maturity, reaches classical clarity in the management of its resources without engaging in defiant attitude regarding the formal limits. For its part Colina carefully prepared environment that the wise strategy sessions, without intervening too much, resulting in full touch with the revelation of the most admired Montoliu, showing itself in the very act of contrast.
Tete Montoliu defined by their attitude, sometimes openly and without much contemplation, classic jazzman model, making the technical mastery of improvisation purist ethics. Javier Colina is committed twice with respect to that model, because he knows from within its attraction because it provides fascinating and how they behave in new situations, in relation to other music. The relatively pure-jazz, that ensures flawless Montoliu baggage, approaches to the forging of oddities that the immediate future promises.
