Here is the new album from German thrashband Tankard. And guess what? It sounds the same as the one before and the one before that. On volume 14 the cover already reveals what the main interest of these guys are, namely beer. Tankard has been around for almost 30 years and won’t ever change their style. Since their first record in 1986 the band has continuously made songs and records in the same style they started out with; fast metal songs in honour of alcohol. Claiming to have invented a new genre called alcoholic metal, Tankard are self-proclaimed Kings of Beer.Tankard Official Homepage
As soon as you hear a Tankard record, you know it is a Tankard record. The screaming vocals of Gerre, the typical simple thrash guitar riffs supported by pounding drums, all ingredients to the brewery fuelled sound of Tankard. It is standard thrash metal with the standard beer lyrics. Ok, ‘Beck's in the City’ is apparently about speed dating for metalheads. There’s a deep subject for you then! It does put a smile on my face to hear those funny lyrics with Gerre’s thick German accent on top of it. And you know that they do this with fun and for fun.
And that’s the main thing that this band is about. Although they are part of the first thrash metal wave, they are not about keeping it true. They just don’t know any different. No way you could keep this up for 14 albums long. I have no idea when the next album will come out, but it will sound the same as this one. Fans know enough. Just another 50 minutes to enjoy this alcoholic metal. Cheers!
