This project started as an Instrumental sound bed commissioned by Giorgio Armani for his Autumn collection In Milan. Simon and his collaborator “Xsample” spent many an afternoon in Simon's apartment experimenting with atmospherics,melodies and rhythms crossing a wide variety of genre’s.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of this project was recording “Xsamples” masterful & inspired Guitar parts directly into Protools. Creating original loops from these guitar parts as well as sampling elements from some of the more obscure blues records gave the record a texture and sound that was quite unique. As well as performances by “Xsample” & Simon there are some spectacular guest appearances ranging from:
Paul Waller, whos drum programming is exemplary
Tony Ritch -“Give a woman what she wants”
Sheryl Crow a woman who - “Knows what she wants”
B.B. King - featured sample in “Seven”
Nick Ingman - string arrangement on “What Else”
On Completion of the Milan show everyone was agreed that TDF was too good to be left on the shelf . Ritch Fitzgerald at Warners Reprise Label heard a few tracks and loved it so we did a limited release - MTV US still uses the track Ripstop behind one of the chart countdowns and although this album was never actively marketed - if you can find it …. It’s well worth a listen. For Simon in many ways this Album paved the way for his future collaborations with B.B. King And Eric Clapton.
