Richard Strauss: Also Sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30 • Don Juan, Op. 20 - Bernard Haitink, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
XLD | FLAC (tracks) | No Log/cue-sheet | Coverart Embedded & High-def JPEG | ~264 Mb
Classical | ADD | Philips (1973)
These recordings from 1973 were re-issued on CD in the 80's shortly after the digital recordings of Strauss' Op.64, Op.24, Op. 28 and Op.20 (new recording!) in Philips's Silver Line Classics series. The CD was later on combined in an issue in the budget Duo-series. Although the newer recording of Don Juan is probably to preferred over the older 1973-recording, it still is top-notch. The Zarathustra however makes this recording worthwhile by itself as it is up to par with the best recordings around: beautiful orchestral balance (as a very well balanced, blended - though audible - organ) and gorgeous sound-quality. Moreover a superb reading of the solo-violin part by Herman Krebbers. Enjoy!
