This is beautiful music, based on classical sounds but with a modern flare. There's less of a rock beat here than in the music the group played when I heard them at Disney's EPCOT, making this CD less exciting but, on the other hand, better for background music for a dinner.

I have been a Rondo Veneziano fan for nearly ten years. This was one of the first albums I heard. Unfortunately this album and many others by Rondo Veneziano are hard to come by here in the U.S. I had to go to Germany to discover them! This particular album is a moving mix of modern classical/electronic music that is anything but dull. I flew home from Berlin listening to this album and I was definitely soaring much higher than the plane was. As a music lover and composer, I just don't understand why the United States doesn't have better access to this incredible music. (Maybe the US powers-that-be don't want it here. It would put many less talented musicians out of business!)

Rondò Veneziano

An Italian chamber orchestra, Rondó Veneziano set itself apart from many groups of similar style by not only employing mostly women musicians and making it a rule to perform in period Baroque dress, but mainly because they were able to meld traditional chamber music pieces to modern backing tracks, rhythms, and percussion lines, almost giving their classical sound a club music foundation that sometimes bordered on prog rock. Their first big break came in the United Kingdom in 1983, with the single "La Serenissima," which was followed two years later by a successful appearance providing the score to the film Not Quite Jerusalem. Their first album, a self-titled affair, was released in 1980, and was followed by more than 70 albums over the next (nearly) 30 years. In 2005, the group released a live collection entitled 25 Live.
