ABC Classics is proud to release a new live recording of highlights from Handel’s rarely heard opera Rodelinda, with legendary Australian conductor Richard Bonynge.
Rodelinda contains everything one would expect from a Handel opera: tangled love, jealousy, botched schemes, a joyous ending – and of course sublime music. Written in 1725, when Handel was at the height of his powers, it is truly a jewel in the crown of the Baroque repertoire.
The concert performance of Rodelinda in City Recital Hall Angel Place in 2012 was one of the most eagerly anticipated dates in Sydney’s musical calendar. Presented by the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Foundation, the performance featured some of Australia’s finest Baroque singers under the baton of one of the nation’s most distinguished conductors. This selection of the highlights from that memorable night, curated by Bonynge himself, is a fitting tribute to the occasion and an essential addition to any music-lover’s library.
