    Gett Off is the 1991 CD5 by Prince & The New Power Generation. Originally released as a birthday record in June 1991, it became his first single in support of his Diamonds & Pearls album. This was released by Paisley Park Records through Warner Bros.
    Prince was in need of a serious recovery following the failure of his Graffiti Bridge project. He briefly introduced his new band in the movie and soundtrack album, but it was obvious to many that he needed to offer something with a bit more substance.

    In 1991 he offered a preview of what was to come by pressing up a special 12" single mailed out to radio, media, and friends. It also helped that the 12" single was released in honor of Prince's birthday. It was a new track called "Gett Off", where some of the raunch Prince had been known for on earlier records had resurfaced.

    A month or so later the music video game out, featuring the new characters of "Diamond" and "Pearl". Prince was there, with the New Power Generation, in the middle of an orgy which seemed to never end.

    As was customary with Prince, even if you saw the exotic sexiness of the video, you had to go to the 12" single for further instructions on what to do next.

    Instead of offering a remix or two and an instrumental, Prince went further by doing completely different songs, with the main "Gett Off" beat being the common thread running through. The Houstyle mix of "Gett Off" is a house mix, but it comes off as a completely new song, with a new vocal track from Prince and background vocalist Rosie Gaines. "Violet The Organ Grinder" is Prince doing his best to show that he can rap as good as anyone else. "Gangster Glam" has Tony M. dropping rhymes. The original single closed with "Clockin' The Jizz", where Prince gets to take the song into the jazz world.

    Prince went even one step further by creating music videos for the songs on the 12" single (tracks 1-3, 5-6) and released it exclusively on home video.

    This CD single adds two mixes that aren't on the original vinyl, the house flavored "Flutestrumental" mix where you get to hear more flute work from Eric Leeds. while the "Extended Remix" is the full mix of the album that was shortened considerably for the album.

    "Gett Off" would become the first single in support of Prince's Diamonds And Pearls.
