Omar & the Howlers is a Texas based electric blues and blues rock band, formed in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1973 by the blues guitarist and singer Omar Kent Dykes. Three years later they moved to Austin, Texas. The band has regularly toured European countries. Omar & the Howlers has released around twenty-five successful albums on Columbia, Provogue, Ruf Records, and their current record label, Big Guitar Music.
Omar shakes up the Howlers' lineup yet again for Southern Style, yet the changes don't affect his sound much at all. Working with guitarist Stephen Bruton, bassist Paul Junior, drummer Steve Kilmer, percussionist Mark Hallman and organist Nick Connolly, Omar Dykes kicks out a set of swampy blues-rock that alternates between New Orleans grunge and tight Memphis grooves.~ Thom Owens, All Music
