Persian Inspirations, the pianist Nima Farahmand Bafi calls his debut CD. In addition to improvisations on melodies of old masters of traditional Persian music, he makes, as is self-evident, works by Chopin and Liszt. The playful pieces symbolize the two "hearts" that beat in his breast: the one for the music of his homeland, the other for European classical music. Not only Nima Bafi's career is extraordinary. The self-evident nature with which he changes between interpretation and improvisation as well as his walks between classical music, jazz and Persian music make his album an event.
Nima Farahmand Bafi was born in 1984 in Tehran in a family of musicians. His father is a famous Tonbak player, so this traditional Persian percussion instrument was also the entry into the music world for the young Nima. His great passion for piano music triggered a recording of the Mozart Sonata in C minor, so he began playing piano at the age of 12 and made the decision to become a pianist.
After his bachelor's degree in physics at the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran in 2009, he continued his master's degree in Germany. From 2010 he joined the class of Peter Nagy at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts and studied music and physics in parallel. After completing his master's degree in physics, he continued his research work for his doctorate at the University of Stuttgart and at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. He finished his master's degree with Prof. Nagy in 2014. Asked how these different interests are combined, Nima Farahmand Bafi answers: "Music and physics are not for me a 'study' and no 'work', they are two great ones Love. I am like a battery that works only when both poles are working. I can only be if I have the music and the physics. "
