Michel Sanchez (* 1 July 1957 Somain, France). He spent much of this youth studying music (piano, classical organ percussion). Sanchez is the co-founder of the band Deep Forest with Éric Mouquet. He won a Grammy Award in 1995, and a World Award for best world music album.
In the early 1990s Sanchez mixed synthesizer with a traditional song from the Solomon Islands. This was the starting point of Deep Forest.~ wiki
This latest release by Michel Sanchez (1/2 of Deep Forest) is quite different from his other works. If you are looking for something like his 1st solo CD, 'Windows', or Deep Forest, you'll probably want to skip this one. This has a sound better described as 'acid jazz'. Michel Sanchez, who also gave us the infectious "Deep Forest" albums, is a master talent. His previous solo outing, "Windows," was one of my favorite albums of 1998, so I couldn't wait to get my ears on this new release. Believe it or not, this new record, "Hieroglyphs," makes the wild and wonderful "Windows" seem almost tame by comparison. Think of what might happen if there were a collaborative effort among Weather Report, New York Voices, Cirque du Soleil, and Rob Mounsey's Flying Monkey Orchestra – all pumped up on steroids – and you begin to get the idea. Sanchez, with his amazing ability to mesh various musical styles and vivid tone colors (not to mention his impeccable keyboard virtuosity), will turn your ear every which way but loose!
