    Here we have the debut album from Gothenburg, Sweden power trio Marulk, out on Transubstans Records. To say these guys have embraced the sounds of the '70s is an understatement, as they've created a really fun album that rocks hard in the grand tradition of The Rolling Stones, Pentagram, Grand Funk Railroad, November, and early AC/DC. Raw, bluesy, and quite blistering guitar riffs abound, courtesy of the very fine player Thomas B Jäger, with drummer Esben Willems laying down the foundation alongside bassist & lead vocalist Danne Palm. The songs are an eclectic mix of uptempo, bluesy/funky hard rockers and darker, almost doom laden metallic pieces, the latter readily apparent on the crunchy "Slumber Waltz" and the former on the raucous "Daylight & Rain" and the party anthem "Hey Sister", a tune with a great hook and plenty of groove. It's not hard to get grabbed by the tasty riffing of "The Alarm", and the rootsy charm of "Is This Home" will take you all the way back to the Stones' wonderful Exile on Main St. album."Nosferatools" is a breakneck, manic rocker straight out of the Bon Scott era AC/DC playbook, and both "I See You In My Dreams" and "Potemkin" contain some thick, bluesy hard rock riffing that wouldn't have sounded out of place on an old Led Zeppelin or Humble Pie record. I almost feel like I'm starting to sound like a broken record praising all these outstanding Swedish bands who have embraced the sounds of the '70s, but the truth of the matter is that there are so many of them who are doing a fine job at it, that you just can't ignore the fact. Add Marulk to that list. This is an insanely enjoyable album.
