    Free Love & Nickel Beer is the 1994 album by Little Sister. Released on SBK, the group appeared and quickly disappeared soon after, at least under the Little Sister name. They became Sister 7.
    Little Sister were an upcoming back from the Austin, Texas music scene, rock and blues based with a pinch of soul thrown in. Their hard work would eventually lead to the band being signed by SBK Records. Unfortunately, that also meant sharing a label with Technotronic, Vanilla Ice, and Wilson-Phillips. SBK wanted to broaden their horizons, and this was their little attempt that trying to gain a rock/alternative audience.

    It worked to a degree, enough for the band to have "Buzz" status on MTV. "Drift Away" received a small bit of airplay, but in terms of trends the band were caught between the end of grunge and the beginning of sugar-coated pop. Little Sister could easily fit in with The Black Crowes, as Patrice Pike has one of those powerhouse vocals not unlike a Melissa Etheridge.

    The band would release two more albums on their own before calling it a day and changing their name to Sister 7. Pike now has a solo career, still calls the Austin area home and regularly performs in her own band with guitarist Wayne Sutton.
