Laurence Juber: The Collection (2000)

LJ is simply one of the most creative and accessible acoustic guitarists out there. His music appeals to more than just "guitar afficionados," and can only be classified as "good music." This collection is a great introduction, because it offers a variety of examples of LJ's playing. "Jesus Joy of Man's Desire" is beautiful and tasteful, perfectly appropriate for a wedding or a relaxing Sunday afternoon. "Little Wing" has all of the excitement of rock and roll while exhibiting all of the complex harmonies in the song. "Private Dick" has the dark quality of a '40s detective novel soundtrack, and "The White Pass Trail" is exciting and fast-paced. While many greatest-hits type albums are poorly organized, this one places the songs in a great order that makes for a fantastic listening experience. As a guitarist, LJ is one of my heroes. But many of my family and friends who are not "guitar freaks" and do not enjoy some of the hyper-technical acoustic guitar music out there still find this to be accessible and a great listen.
