    Kill Rock Stars is one of three compilations released by the Olympia, Washington-based Kill Rock Stars label. Released in 1991 as the label's first release, this is the first compilation of the series. Highlights on this includes exclusive material by Nirvana, Melvins, Bikini Kill, Steve Fisk, 7 Year Bitch, Mecca Normal, and many more.

    This is the first album on the Kill Rock Stars label out of Olympia, Washington in the Pacific Northwest. This compilation was created in honor of an indie rock festival in Olympia, featuring some of the bands who played there. A few of these groups would move on to major labels, some becoming more successful than others. They include Nirvana, Melvins, and 7 Year Bitch. Other groups would be an influence for other bands, such as Unwound, Mecca Normal, Fitz Of Depression, Nation Of Ulysses, and of course Bikini Kill, the leaders of the Riot Grrl movement.

    A small vinyl pressing was made with no intention for a second pressing, but the surprise success of Nirvana lead to Kill Rock Stars having to make more to meet the demand. There are a number of Nirvana fans who may understand the lo-fidelity genius of Bratmobile's "Girl Germs"    .
