Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part II is the third studio album by German power metal band Helloween, released in 1988. The album sold well, and success bloomed all over Europe, Asia, and even the United States. The album went gold in Germany and reached No. 108 in the US. Two singles were released from the album, "Dr. Stein" and "I Want Out". "Dr. Stein" has a very long and moody solo, played with a blues tinge, very unlike other solos on the album, as well as an organ solo. "I Want Out" remains the band's best-known song, and has been covered by several metal bands, such as Gamma Ray (which Kai Hansen formed after leaving Helloween itself), Unisonic, HammerFall, LORD and Sonata Arctica. It is their last album to feature Hansen until 2021's self-titled album.
In 1987, Helloween released "Keeper Of The Seven Keys, Pt I", which was very promising. Fans didn't have to wait long for the continuation of this conceptual diptych, because already in 1988 the German speed metal band presented the sequel.

As for "Keeper Of The Seven Keys, Pt I", it is thus a short introduction that prepares us for a first slap. "Eagles Fly Free" is a very speedy and melodic track, with the appearance of a "hit", which shows all the ambition of the band. Kiske's vocals is particularly impressive. The rhythmic is more daring than on the previous opus, which is confirmed by "You Always Walk Alone", with many changes of rhythm and less classical tempos than on "Keeper Of The Seven Keys, Pt I". "Rise And Fall" is very fast and crazy, with some amazing choirs, in the manner of a Queen. "Dr. Stein" offers an inventive and pleasant riff, "We Got The Right" is very close to "A Tale That Wasn't Right" (from the previous album), with very high-pitched choruses and a more melancholic atmosphere…

In the end, each composition has its personality and no track is really below the others. Helloween offers us here a real masterpiece, full of inspiration and good mood (breaking in passing the main prejudices about Metal). The album is easy to get into, and riffs like "Dr. Stein", or "I Want Out", will immediately capture your attention. Last but not least, "The Keeper Of The Seven Keys", which spans almost a quarter of an hour, is an extremely well constructed track, multiplying ambiences, solos, harmonies, and epic choruses.

With its resolutely positive atmosphere, serious themes approached with humor and an exceptional vocal performance, we have here an opus that is without fault. Despite a production that still lacks some depth, "Keeper Of The Seven Keys, Pt II" remains an absolute must-have album for any fan of heavy metal with a speed tendency.
