Johannes Brahms wrote this to Clara Schumann in 1878. Even though Brahms is certainly too modest here in his own respect; as far as Viotti is concerned, there is nothing to add to it even today. Giovanni Battista Viotti was not only the most important violin virtuoso of his time, but also a composer of great grace.
