Chicago & Mississippi Blues - Mostly Unplugged. Featuring: Honeyboy Edwards, Johnny B. Moore, Eddie C. Campbell, Magic Slim, John Primer.

Born on April 28, 1915 in Shaw, Missis¬sippi, David "Honeyboy" Edwards grew up in a musical family. His father, Henry Edwards played violin and guitar for dances and clubs around the Shaw area. At the age of 14 Honeyboy started playing the guitar and moved to Greenwood, Mississippi and teamed up with Big Joe Williams, travelling through Louisiana, Mississippi and the Gulf coast area. He also worked with Tommy McClennan, Charley Patlon, the Memphis Jug Band, Big Walter Horton, Robert Johnson and recorded for Library of Congress in 1942. He made numerous recordings for the ARC, Chess, Adelphi, Hluo Blue Horizon and Roots label. He toured extensi-vely the United Slates and Europe and even appeared in the films "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert", NBC-TV, 1978 and in "Good Morning Blues", PBS TV, 1978. Most recently, his story was broadcasted on a dutch TV program.

Having a pretty standard story for a Chicago bluesman, Eddie С Campbell was born in Duncan, Mississippi on May 6, 1939. He came to Chicago from Clarksdale at the age of six, and grew up on the South Side. His mother helped him to buy his first guitar when he was nine and also look him to the 1125 Club on West Madison Street, where another transplanted Clarksdale resident was working Muddy Waters. Muddy told Eddie thai he could sit in when he learned to play. Eddie studied diligently, learned "Still A Fool" and Muddy let him sit in at the ripe age of twelve. From then on, Eddie started playing around more and followed Willie James Lyons, Luther Allison and Magic Sam. Later he even got a chance to play with famous singers like Percy Mayfield and Little Johnny Taylor. He joined Koko Taylor, who recom¬mended him to Willie Dixon, with whom he stayed for many years. Eddie toured Europe with a "Chicago Blues Legends" package in 1979. In the winter of 1983, Eddie decided to settle down in Europe, played in nearly all its countries and is currently fronting his own band in Amsterdam, Holland. In the spring of 1988 he followed a friend's invitation to perform with the Mojo Blues Band in Vienna and made the present recordings, the first time on acoustic guitar and as a soloist on record.

Johnny B. Moore is not a newcomer to the Wolf label and therefore we refer to the liner notes of Wolf 120.851, "Chicago Blues Session" Volume 5. Here we not only find two great tracks by Johnny himself, but also that he is a fine accompanist to Honeyboy Edwards' lowdown downhome blues. His title "Memphis Bound" has been recorded at his first record session ever in 1984. Look out for some more acoustic Blues by Johnny alone & together with John Primer soon on a Wolf-CD!

Magic Slim ist the Magic Man you know. The title on this CD Slim played at home in Grenada, Miss., 30 years ago. This is the one and only acoustic title by Slim ever published on CD or LP!

John Primer is now a Blues star of his own, but became famous as a sideman for Slim's Teardrops & Muddy Waters. "Mojo" is the right title for you that you will ask for more and you'll get it! (See J. B. Moore-notes)

Timothy Taylor, Eddie Taylor's youngest son, provides fine drumming on the present album, as he did on nearly all the records in Wolf's "Chicago Blues Session" series. His style is strongly reminiscent of that of Earl Phillips, former sideman with Howlin' Wolf and Jimmy Reed. No wonder that Timothy became a drummer, having had a famous father that has been the backbone of the Jimmy Reed sound for more than 20 years!
