    Genre: Jazz

The African-Brazilian Connection had been in existence for 18 months when this set was made and the five players seem very happy in their collaboration. If Pullen is the obvious star — the way he varies the dynamics on Ode To Life is masterly and his solos are nicely varied — Carlos Ward's flute playing is top class (try Paraty and Anastasia/Pyramid) and his alto work has a gentle Desmondish quality marred only by a squeak or two (try Ah George…, a tribute, as is the whole CD, to the late George Adams). Very different but well worth a spin by everyone not turned off by Latin or African rhythms.
