Denis Pascal - Schubert: Piano Sonatas D. 960 & D. 784 (2017)

This pianist, born in 1962, is at the head of an impressive career, both as a concert artist and a teacher (he is a professor at the Conservatoire de Paris, after having been a teacher at Lyon), and his Discography is expanded from season to season: Debussy, Chausson, Liszt, Chopin; And many, many Schubert. This album proposes two of his ultimate sonatas: the unfathomable Sonata in B-flat major with its "divine lengths", written two months before death, and the Fourteenth in A minor of 1823, the last conceived in three movements . Denis Pascal is a pianist of clarity, articulation, phrasing, singing. We think we are witnessing a "renaissance" of the works, as if they were improvising them for us.
