Pre-Emptive Strike is a 1998 compilation album by American artist/producer Josh Davis, known under the pseudonym DJ Shadow. Released on 13 January, 1998, it features many of his singles he did before the release of his debut album, Endtroducing and his then-latest single, "High Noon". This CD also features a bonus disc of various Shadow songs mixed by DJ Q-Bert called Camel Bobsled Race, which had been released in UK as a stand-alone disc.

DJ Shadow became a critical darling after the release of Endtroducing, and everyone wanted to know what he would come up with next. As he was putting together the album that would become UNKLE's Psyence Fiction, Shadow put together a compilation featuring three of the singles he released on Mo' Wax. It was the "In/Flux"/"Hindsight" single that lead to the creation of the term known as "trip-hop".

Early copies of this CD included a bonus CD that had been released as its own record/CD in the UK, Camel Bobsled Race. It is a megamix made by DJ Q-Bert, and Shadow decided to offer it to American fans on initial copies of Pre-Emptive Strike.

While not a proper album, it did show where DJ Shadow came from, and where he was about to go.
