In addition to penning several early rock & roll standards (most notably "Blue Suede Shoes," later popularized by Elvis Presley), Carl Perkins was one heck of a guitarist, known for switching gears between country rock and rock & roll. In his live shows (especially toward the end of his career), Perkins would often include covers of rock & roll standards written by other artists in his set, and 1998's CARL PERKINS contains studio reworkings of covers, as well as a few Perkins original nuggets. Featured are fun versions of "Maybeline," "Jailhouse Rock," "Roll Over Beethoven," "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," "Be Bop A Lu La," "Matchbox," "Blue Suede Shoes," and others.
