After the complete recordings of the Bruckner Symphonies by Haitink with his Concertgebouw Orchestra (mid 60's - early 70's). This re-recording of the 9th was made at the start of the digital era (1981) and surpasses Haitink's prior reading on many counts. Technically both the orchestra and the recording's sound engineering are superior to the analogue recording from the 70's: powerful and impressive dynamics, always noble and balanced. As Haitink's Bruckner Box-set contains the older recording and the superior 1981-recording has been discontinued, this is a no-brainer. A must-have, must-hear recording. Enjoy!
