"Here Comes the Night" is the 12th album by singer-songwriter Barry Manilow. The album was recorded at Sound City Recording Studios in Van Nuys, California. The United Kingdom release went by the title "I Wanna Do It With You". It was released in 1982, and it scored single Platinum. The album has yet not to be released on CD in the US, but has had 2 CD releases in Japan: one was a 1987 incarnation that included a remix of "Oh Julie" (with added background vocals and additional instrumentation), and then in 1994, a new reissue came out in Japan that contained the original mix of "Oh Julie", as released in the US in 1982 on both EP and 45.

Barry Manilow's "Here Comes the Night" is one of his more satisfying 80s albums. It's refreshing to hear him do songs in the pop-rock idiom, after several albums in which he practically perfected pop balladry, jazz-pop, and Broadway-styled tunes. Here, he also has the last word on "Memory" from the Broadway show "Cats", but he also does several synth-driven, upbeat numbers such as the playful "I Wanna Do It With You" and the rueful hit "Some Kind of Friend". Also of note is his remake of Billy Williams' 1957 hit "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself A Letter" and Chinn/Chapman's "Some Girls". But the ballads here are also more grandiose: the sweeping "Stay", the aforementioned "Memory", and the terrific title tune. Not yet reissued in the US since the vinyl days (and here's hoping Sony does this VERY soon), the Japanese issue also contains, as a bonus track, his cover of Shakin' Stevens' British hit "Oh, Julie!", which reached #38 on the charts, and a track which seems to elude compilers when issuing stateside hits collections.
