The name of Annmari Thim should not be new to any readers or listeners here on Gothic Paradise with her involvement in one of our favorite neo-classical projects Arcana as well as with Seventh Harmonic as well. img 2012 sees this talented vocalist join the ranks of Prikosnovenie with this project, accompanied by Cristian Ellingsen on guitars and compositions and Mattias Borg on percussion. We're presented with a variety styles from the classical to various ethnic sounds on this album across nine beautiful pieces, forming a sort of cross between Arcana and Seventh Harmonic.

The album starts off dark and brooding with the introductory track "Come Forth" which is just a short piece just over a minute long and sets the pace and mood for the album. As each selection builds, it creates a dynamic and unique part of the overall theme of this somewhat concept album exploring various mythological elements. The poetic and mystical lyrics are brought forth through captivating music accented with various tribal, martial or middle-eastern percussion and layered with dark yet beautiful orchestral synthesized strings and heavy bass. All of this builds up and creates beautiful soundscapes, a nice canvas for the angelic vocals.

The album is fairly homogenous as it moves along from piece to piece. Annmari's vocals really form the foundation for it all, the common thread that holds it all together. A few favorites that stand out to me include those that are anchored more in the neo-classical and ethereal elements, usually building up layer after layer, adding more percussion and so on. A perfect example of this is "Ardent Lily" starting off with simple acoustic guitar with various symphonic layers forming the backdrop to the beautiful vocals. It slowly moves along, building with some excellent, puncuated, heavy bass percussion and built up with added percussion and more layers of electronics. Later in the album "Love Inflamed" captures the listener with the beautiful melodies of broken chords that give way to heavy, dynamic synths and percussion. In similar style "Crime of Passion" comes to life toward the end of the album in simple beauty, focusing on the soft and simple vocals that really hold the listener entranced. This brings us to the finale to the album which brings a bit of everything, soft, subtle, simply beautiful vocals coupled with the bombastic symphonic sounds laced with operatic vocals as well. This creates a very dynamic and powerful ending to the album to finalize things perfectly.

Fans of the aforementioned projects in the neo-classical genres should enjoy this album. It's angelic and beautiful and anchored in solid synths and great harmonies, puncuated by dynamic percussion for a great style. Don't hesitate and pick it up.
