The 'Altar' album is NOT a split album. 'Altar' is a collaboration album between sunn 0))) and Boris that is a result of both bands conceptualizing, writing and recording the album together as one entity.
"SunnO))) and Boris cap off the year with Altar, a collaboration that attempts to bridge the gap between the former's trance-inducing, minimalistic drone and the latter's rock, doom, psychedelic freakouts. Black One, SunnO)))'s last full-length, incorporated black metal vocals into their heavy sprawl and was hailed as their best work to date. Boris' Pink found the band flipping between the doom, sludge of Amplifier Worship and the garage punk and metal of Heavy Rocks, giving listeners a wider range of what they are capable of creating. SunnO))) winds up pulling away from their moody, dark soundscapes, and Boris builds on a facet of their sound that's less known.
