S-Tool - Tolerance 0 (2017)

Nach der unbestimmt langen Pause von POISONBLACK hat Ville Laihiala mit neuer Mannschaft die Band S-TOOL gegründet. Mit dabei sind neben dem Frontmann Sami Leppikangas (ex-LULLACRY) an der Gitarre, Aksu Hattu (ex-ENTWINE) am Schlagzeug und Heavy Hiltunen (ex-LULLACRY und THE BLACK LEAGUE) am Bass. Aber auch aus musikalischen Gesichtspunkten ergibt der neue Bandname Sinn: Das zeigt schon die offiziell verbürgte Liste der Referenzen und Einflüsse, die von ENTOMBED bis hin zu PANTERA reicht. Sprich: Die Finnen holen auf dem Debüt “Tolerance 0” den Dampfhammer raus und sorgen zumindest in den Strophen mit heftigen Riffs für ein anderes Flair als das, wofür Ville Laihialas ehemalige Bands POISONBLACK und SENTENCED standen.

Aber natürlich ändert das Ville Laihialas Stimme nicht, was bedeutet, dass zu jeder Zeit hörbar ist, wer da singt. Außerdem kann er offensichtlich auch als Komponist nicht aus seiner Haut, weswegen spätestens in den Refrains die Melodiosität zum Vorschein kommt, die bereits seine alten Bands ausgezeichnet hat. Und so nehmen Tracks, wie “Lights Out” oder “And You Call Yourself Sane” doch noch eine elegante Wendung, nachdem die Gitarenriffs reichlich stumpf geklungen haben. “Hammering” wiederum hat im Refrain eine interessante Phrasierung, die sich – ganz dem Songtitel entsprechend – im Kopf festhämmert.

“Tolerance 0” überzeugt auch ohne große Hits
So gesehen ist S-TOOL eine etwas modernere Variante der ehemaligen Bands von Ville Laihiala. Was jetzt noch fehlt, sind die ganz großen Hits, denn trotz aller tollen Melodien und der markanten Signature-Vocals ist es eher der Gesamteindruck von “Tolerance 0”, der positiv im Gedächtnis bleibt, und weniger einzelne Lieder. Dennoch: Alle, die bei der Pause von POISONBLACK Wehmut überkommen hat, dürfen sich ab sofort über S-TOOL und “Tolerance 0” freuen – das Album ist weit besser, als es der halb gesenkte Daumen auf dem Cover vermuten lässt. ~ review by Eckart Maronde

To put it short…

I hate my fellow-mortals. Including myself. I hate ignorance, vanity, greed, indifference, self-importance and all them other great values we so desperately hang onto.

The values that`ve been force-fed to us and now define us as a species. We live in a world of shit and that shit is our own. There is no god! Jesus won`t save. We are each free to believe what we want. I chose not to believe. Not to your God.

We are in rapid descent. Running towards the end. Killing ourselves collectively. And yet by nails and teeth we`re trying to adapt to this fundamentally sick and doomed society we`ve created. No matter what the cost or the consequences. And we call ourselves sane. Seriously? I`m no idealist nor do I have any answers. I am as responsible as everyone else. Same shit as everyone else.

But let me ask you this; Do you ever just wanna grab someone by the shoulders, look them deep in the eyes and scream at the top of your lungs, life won`t give a fuck?!

It won`t waste its option on us.

As some wise man has said; This shit has got to go! I hope it will be soon.
