Poste 942 - Long Replay (2019)

A lot of the time when I sit down to do these reviews it’s metal the most of the time, as you might imagine. But, it’s every now and then that I just want to go back to much simpler days where I would sit with my dad in the garage and listen to whatever the hell came on the radio or whatever CD he blindly grabbed out of his meager collection. It’s rock where I feel at home with and it’s with that genre that the spirit has never changed as we still get plenty of good material should you look for it. Poste 942 has caught my eye before but it’s with “Long Replay” that they’ve really caught my attention.

There are plenty of occasions where I’ve found myself lavishing in the ridiculous display of musical prowess that some bands seem to have an endless supply of with styles like technical death and progressive metal being particularly nuts. Yet, there are few things that can go wrong when shit is kept simple. That’s not to call Poste 942 mundane as it’s with their grunge-flavored sound that their brand of rock is immensely familiar and appealing as music to flick on in order to forget about life for a little while. It’s with “Long Replay” that we get a very welcoming classy rock sound that has just enough dirt in its sound to not feel manufactured in any sort of way with Poste 942 putting in as much passion and pride in their work that you could ask for, and pair that with alluring riffs to enable this twelve-track kicker a seriously fun listen that doesn’t cease from beginning to end. And while you could sit there and say that there’s not much depth to this record, I couldn’t help but disagree as even though Poste 942 keeps their sound relatively the same throughout “Long Replay” it’s the energy and the fun nature of the record itself that propels it forward.

Some instruments and a will are, a lot of time, all you need to make a fun record. Not every effort has to have blood and sweat poured into it as some people think as the simple act of jamming with friends can be just as intoxicating a listen. That’s precisely what we’ve gotten with “Long Replay” as Poste 942 continues to have a damned good time while simultaneously providing one that I’m sure they will replicate with following efforts.
