Pieces Of Brain - Arhythmic Visible Music (2004)

Jon Dobie sax, guitar. Co - founder and tour organiser for "B - SHOP FOR THE POOR" , also played with: Peter Brotzman, Charles Hayward, Ken Hyder, "Dynamix", "Sonic Phonic", "ZGA", "Total Touch"….. With Vladimir Miller and A. Alexandropov organises the "No Wave" label. Now he plays with "Pieces of Brain - second edition".

S£AWEK JANICKI: double bass
From the very beginning Mr. Janicki has been involved in the musical movement of Bydgoszcz, the town of his birth and residence. He was a member of the legendary formation "Henryk Brodaty" existing in the 80s. He was a co-originator of "Trytony" trio established in 1992 and attached to the first in Bydgoszcz independent music club under the same name. The other members of the group were Tomasz Gwincinski, guitar, and Jacek Buhl, drums. The group gave two records: "Tance bydgoskie" and "Zarys matematyki niewinnej" made in 1995 in "Mozg" club co-founded by him and Jacek Majewski. One can hear him on the three records by Mazzoll & Arhythmic Perfection formation: "a", "Out out to lunch" and "Rozmowy s catem".
Together with Jacek Majewski, he set up "Pieces of Brain" formation with the American saxophonist Caroline Krabel, whereas in 1998, along with the London guitar player John Dobie, he created a trio under the name of "Pieces of Brain - second edition".

"When plucking his double bass, Janicki, hidden behind the leader, gets a piece of good work done. His solid and sound bass playing is in opposition to the lively and stuntman-like show of Mazzolla. It is a very good combination. Janicki controls the pulse, and when he gets a bow, the spectators pay attention only to him. The flesh creeps. What he improvises at that moment happens to be a great surprise (probably to Janicki himself as well)."

JACEK MAJEWSKI - drums, percussion
Born in 1966. He started to play at the age of about 20. At the beginning he made attempts to manufacture conga-type drums with his own hands, concurrently making his playing perfect. Towards the end of the 80s, he established co-operation with the bands: Henryk Brodaty, Bog, Wolne Zwiazki. He was a co-creator of the duo Sizilio und die Daxe. Now and then he gave concerts with the rhythm'n'blues group After Midnight. After he had finished his pedagogical studies, at the beginning of the 90s he was a co-organizer of Trytony club. It was a place where he co-operated with musicians related to the club in various formations. At that time first recordings with Mazzoll started. After some personal perturbations, in 1994, together with Slawek Janicki, he opened "Mozg" where he used to play and record with many groups, including: Mazzoll and Arhythmic Perfection, Arhythmic Brain, Loskot (with Mikolaj Trzaska), Maestro Trytony, Pieces of Brain (with Caroline Krabel and John Dobie). He is a versatile percussionist who takes advantage of the exotic and ethnic character of his instruments, but who derives sound from the wide range of percussion elements of a symphony orchestra as well as from the surrounding (ordinary - extraordinary) objects (water, metal, wood, fire, air, barrels, pipes, floor, bow, etc. etc.). Now he also gets use of the typically jazz and rock percussion set. Extending his instrumental base resulted in a quite interesting style of playing. It is characterized by love for brass (Oxley?) and a strong time (rather simplicity, no rococo grace-notes). The range of its sound extends from whisper, splash and murmur to
sophisticated sounds of the percussion contemporary music to crack and clangour of crushed metal and broken glass. Jacek Majewski is also a co-owner of Mozg Production record company.

JACEK MAJEWSKI (drums, percussion) is a versalite drummer who uses typical jazz and rock drum kit as well as vast set of classical percussion instruments and objects and sounds (ordinary and unique) taken from surrounding world - water, metal, wood, air, barrels, pipes, floor and so on… The horizon of the sound spreads from whisper, splash, murmur to thunder of drum beat, from sophisticated noises of contemporary percussion music to crack and rumble of broken glass and squeezed scrap. He recorded "a" and "Out Out to Lunch" with Mazzoll & Arhythmic Perfection and played on record "Concert in Mózg" by group Łoskot and "Enoptronia" by Trytony. Member and co-founder of trio Pieces of Brain.
