Special occasions need special measures. And it really must be a very special occasion when an artist who owns several pseudonyms decides to finally release a new album under his real, his civil name. Jean F. Cochois is not completely unknown to Elektrolux, in fact, he has already contributed important works under his JFC moniker to the versatile Elektrolux cataloque, like his highly respected album „Chrome De Lux“ in 1999. Some time has passed now since that day and Jean has used this time to reflect his musical influences, to gather new impressions and to make his sound even more perfect. „Electronique Love“ mirrors this evolution in an impressive manner. The dreamy sensuality – which was already omnipresent in his recent releases – now for the first times unfolds in full beauty and reaches new depths in form of beautiful songs. It’s simply unique how the cooperation with different vocalists fits into the extra-ordinary mood of the album. Considered as the true highlight of the album must be the absolutely expectional „Electronique Love“ title track which represents the emonationalizing impact of the whole work. For the first time, an Elektrolux release will be accompagnied by a booklet which will underline the musical statement of the artists in pictures and text. „Electronique Love“ is a very personal affair that listeners should be able to share as closely as possible.
The man behind the Timewriter takes a break from his well-known and rather velvety tech-house to offer us an introspective and surprisingly calm array of music. The album is understood best in its entirety, wherein the relatively short pieces flow from one place to the next. The album lives up to its name, exploring a very thoughtful set of interpretations on what love and romance might sound like in musical form. Admittedly, some of the pieces border on cliche, though to an endearing end, while other songs dwell in a level of emotional abstractness that is somewhat akin to Peter Benisch in his less haunting moments. "Days, Weeks, and Years" is a fantastic track for the slower dancefloors, while "Rivers of Blues" follows with a sad and utterly beautiful melody. Perhaps my pick of the album is the deceptively simple "White Clouds Passing The Blue Sky," which captures the melancholy, longing, and bittersweet bliss of a moment now gone. Excellent, if refreshing.
