Since its formation in 2007, Grey Shack has always tried to make music that reminds us of a time when loud rock n roll was cool. And it still is. With a tendency to push themselves musically and technically, Grey Shack has always tried to find that balance between technical proficiency and the ability to have people go back with a song or a riff stuck in their head after their shows.
The new album, Alchemy, marks a transformation in the band's sound and lyrical direction. The new sound is heavier with three part vocal harmonies, and every member in the band pushing themselves and each other to be better than ever before. Influenced by the likes of Mr. Big, The Winery Dogs, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and even maybe Dream Theater, the band manages to use all these influences in a manner that's uniquely Grey Shack.
In a time when political correctness is the flavour of the season, and people get offended for every little thing, Grey Shack's songs remind us that music is a medium for talking about everything that's going wrong in the world, and that we don't have to be apologetic when somebody doesn't agree with our views. That's how art should be - honest.
